Last March 16 of the year 2015, we had our very first
session in teaching. I was really excited for this subject because, well, I
really would like to become a great teacher. The first sessions of the course
tackled about teaching yoga, having some self reflection, and doing some role
play.
Honestly, I
did not understand at first why these were integrated in our PT 138 class,
especially yoga. I thought yoga was taught to us in order to know yoga at the
very basic level, but I was wrong. It has been taught in order to have a feel
on how to conduct a group activity/class, how it can be made effective, and how
to facilitate a group of students.
The self
reflection part was the hardest of all activities, for me. It is likely because
I find it really hard to watch myself in videos, even in academic ones. I find
it hard to watch and critique myself because sometimes all I see are what I
have done wrong, and I see less of the things I might have done right. Luckily,
I remembered what Sir Rom has told us before when we critiqued our videos for PT
156, to give ourselves some credit because certainly, we have done something,
if not everything, right.
The role
playing was the part I enjoyed the most given the fact that I do am a
frustrated actress. Seeing my classmates become great actors and actresses was
very fulfilling. Besides that, I strongly believe in the power of role playing
as a form of learning. I believe that given a scenario and working your way
through it would stimulate your way of thinking and how you process things, and
how you put things in priority.
