What is Teaching Without Feedback?

Indeed, what is teaching without feedback? It might not be glaringly obvious for some but everyone more or less relies on feedback. These tidbits of information only serve to help us improve and everyone of us should strive for improvement.

This time, our activity was all about teaching and giving proper feedback. This might be confusing but I did see how it would be insightful for all of us learning how to be good teachers in this profession.

I don't believe that I liked this activity too much as I felt it was rather redundant at some points. However, I do understand that sometimes, redundancy helps us learn as it makes things more natural for us such as observing someone and giving feedback.

The first activity, teaching a classmate a skill, was quite enjoyable for me. It might not have been all that productive especially for her (as I taught her four different kinds of winks) but at the risk of sounding conceited, I do believe that this made it all the more interesting for her. I also think that this was a good point as teaching should be more effective if the learner's interest is captured.

The second and third activities were similar in that both involved giving feedback. I know feedback is important but this is the part that I felt was a bit redundant. We all gave feedback in the same way and mostly did it properly. It could be good practice but I hoped that it would have been more interesting for us as the feedback for our own classmates were all generally the same.

All in all, the activity was helpful. The debriefing after surely helped as it made points to consider easier to remember. Variety could have been injected by perhaps using videos of people teaching skills and giving feedback for those but it was all generally insightful.
