Teaching is learning

During or first day of class in teaching as a physical therapist, we did three very exciting and innovative activities. These are different than our usual classes, which made them interesting. It was the first time that I did yoga. I like how organized the class was. Instructions were very explicit which helped us execute the movements and poses properly. The instructor made sure that we are all comfortable and would give as manual cues if we had any difficulties. All of these made us focus on the goal, which is to breath properly and perform controlled movements. It was a very refreshing and calming experience. We also had to evaluate our own way of teaching by analyzing our instructional videos in performing ACBT. It gave us a chance to review our performance and reflect on how to make our way of teaching more convenient for the patient. The activity emphasized that we should do all we can to facilitate learning and help them achieve the specific goals. Lastly, we were given situations wherein we should apply different methods of teaching to different types of patients. It was very helpful because it made us understand the importance of personalizing learning for each patient. Through teaching the patients, we can continually assess ourselves and adapt to what the patients need in order to learn.

The things we learned will help us handle our patients in the future. It is a good thing that we had the chance to do it now than not knowing what to do in actual sessions. These made us understand that people are not the same and have different needs. We should consider all the patients' characteristics and use these to help enhance their learning experience and impart necessary knowledge to reach the goals.
