I have been doing it before
but then only now have I learned how to properly give it. Today, we learned how
to properly teach, give feedback to our learners, to the teacher, and to the
one giving feedback. Not often do I give feedback and actually learn in doing it
correctly, and effectively.
The teaching part was a breeze
as I was used to doing the skill. I know what to expect from my classmate as
well as in what ways I can teach the skill. It is also best to know what type
of learner my classmate is and build up on that type to be able to teach
effectively.
On giving feedback, at first I
thought it would be easy, but then everything changed when we were taught a
different way on giving it. What we learned was that it would be better to know/ask
what my classmate thinks of his/her performance and build up my own feedback on
that. It is also important to note the good points as well as the bad points in
order to make learning much more effective and it should be a form of
suggestion so as not to impose change on the person. Change must come from the
person and not us.
It was really an experience
that we need to keep in mind for the rest of our PT career since in our every
session we would be giving feedback to our patients and to others (co-workers
or students or even caregivers) and even ourselves.
Important note: feedback is a
means to learn and we are the agents in learning for our future
patients/clients. To my future self and practice, it is a must to apply what I
have learned and always give feedback!
