Out of the Comfort Zone, Day 1

A seemingly typical day for a PT student actually turned into an unlikely one, a day where I got out of my comfort zone.
It started with watching an old video where we get to critique our teaching abilities. I would say that my teaching skill was crude however becoming aware of my faults, I managed to see the points that I need to improve on. Examples would be less wording and more demonstrations.
Next we were introduced to yoga. As a first-timer I did not have high expectations but I fared well during the exercise mainly because Ma’am Mia was a really great teacher. She demonstrated, corrected our mistakes, and even did the poses with us. It was an encouraging experience to learn something new and to learn teaching techniques.
Lastly with role playing we get to apply everything that we have learned so far. Our group was second-to-the-last so I got to observe the others perform. I tried putting myself in their shoes and thought of how I will go about the session in their stead. I feel proud that we are actually improving in dealing with different kinds of patients. During our turn we experienced a bit of difficulty but we were able to adapt. Logically, our plan was good but the execution needs improvement. After our performance I realized that there really is a difference between thinking of something and actually doing it.

It was really interesting to learn that there is more to being a PT and that is teaching. It was also fascinating to note that we have already been doing this role even before. Now that we are aware of this role and its requirements, constant practice is needed for us to keep on improving. I assume that the things I have learned that day would be critical when we deal with our future patients since it would show how effective we really are as a PT. By the end, I realized that I was not being placed out of my comfort zone and instead was expanding it.
