Everyday I
do my obligations as a student. Every once in a while I teach something to
someone. However, rarely do I get the chance to give feedback to the actions
and words of others. The three-way teaching were I had to (1) teach, (2) give
feedback to the teacher, and (3) give feedback to another feedback, gave me the
opportunity to give out knowledge in different ways.
One of the
things I had to do was teach a skill. Choosing what to teach and starting the
session were actually the hard parts for me. Once I got the rhythm of it, the
flow just went on smoothly. I learned how to be flexible, patient and creative
since my student was losing hope in learning the “cup song”. I got reminded of the fact that I have the
capacity to teach another person. I have the opportunity to give out a bit of
myself and help other people learn.
Giving out
feedbacks was a different story. I learned how and that the sandwich method
works. Feedbacks, I find, are vital for progress but we have to choose the right
words to say and the right way and time to deliver it. I realized how words are
so powerful that they can make you and your learner better.
In the near
future, I’ll teach clients and part of that is giving them positive and
formative feedback. I always have to ask myself “If I were the learner, would I learn from this kind of feedback?”.
As a future professional, I
ought to give myself an opportunity to learn by reflecting or by asking others for feedback. In
this way I become cognizant of how I perform, enabling me to push myself to be of better service to my clients.
