Teaching A Skill

Last March 19, our class had a teaching activity. We were grouped into threes and each of us was given a chance to teach a skill. We were also tasked to give feedback to each other. I find the activity very fun and educational. Teaching was pretty hard because even if you plan everything, you can never expect how the learner will react. You always have to make adjustments to your teaching plan. I taught Candice how to write her name in Hangeul, the Korean alphabet. She asked a lot of questions and, fortunately, I was able to answer them correctly. I was delighted when she wrote her name without a visual cue because this meant that she really learned what I taught her.

The activity also required us to give feedback twice to a group member. I gave feedback to Candice: (1) when she gave feedback to Raiza when Raiza taught me how to make paper stars and (2) when she taught Raiza how to make a star using a rubber band. Giving feedback is an important part of the learning activity. The person who is receiving the feedback will know his/her good points and points for improvement. It will guide the teacher on what to maintain and what to improve for the next teaching activity.

In the future, I will plan and study my teaching activity very well so that I will be prepared for whatever happens and questions that the learner will ask. I will also ask the learner for feedback so I will know what he/she thinks of the activity. I will also test the learner if he/she is really learning the activity by giving lesser cues while doing the activity.
