A Good Teacher: a Facilitator of Learning

It’s easy to be a teacher but it’s hard to be a GOOD teacher. That’s what I saw when we watched the movie entitled “The Freedom Writers” last March 20, a story about a teacher who did everything to make her students love learning.

Teaching knowledge and skills to students are not the most challenging parts of teaching but making them learn is. This is what I realized after watching the movie. We, as future teachers, must learn how to change the attitude of the students/clients towards learning. This is because teaching is not just merely talking in front of them but it is making them learn something from what you are telling them. Something must change within them for us to see that they really learned something from us.

Ms. G is an example of a very good teacher because she does not only talk about things which are nonsense for her students but she makes it sure that the topics she is teaching are meaningful to them. She does this by being creative and using all the resources she can find in order to make her students learn and at the same time have fun. Through this, she was able to change the attitude of the students towards learning and make them love school.

As a future teacher or a PT, I will first consider the attitude of my clients towards learning by finding ways to make the activity or the lesson interesting and meaningful to them. I will be creative with all my resources at hand to ensure that my clients will not just listen to what I will teach but will learn it by heart. Through this, I can make them more compliant to the treatment or to the activities that they must do.
