I’m not the “Forrest Gump” kind of guy, I enjoy movies like Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes, animations like Big Hero 6 and the like. Basically, action movies that are funny. Then the movie day for our teaching class came. We watched “Freedom Writers”. At first I thought that I will not enjoy it, but the subject of the movie is interesting that I started to talk to the one sitting beside me (Sorry for that!), asking/clarifying things so I can understand the movie better, which I did.
Having this kind of activity is the essence of the movie. We learn in different ways, using unconventional techniques, for example, using a movie on teaching to teach teaching. In the movie the class was divided into ‘gangs’ where they will always fight, not care about one another, and often disrespects others, but basically they are alike in many ways. Just like the world we live in, we are divided by different factors, may it be race, gender, religion, but we are all connected.
Compassion and love for your job are some of the teachings that I can apply to my future as a physical therapist. Being compassionate towards my client, giving my all to them, to the best of my abilities is what this movie taught me. Love my job for I know that I help other people from it and that I can make their lives better. Even if I sacrifice my own time, I know that it was worth it.
