That Moving Film

The Freedom Writers is one of those films that one should watch in order to appreciate teaching more. I've learned that teaching a bunch of students with different personalities is a tough job and it needs somebody who is tough enough to handle this kind of situation. In the film, the main character showed enormous dedication to her profession and you just can't help but admire her passion for teaching.

As a PT student, we are always reminded in school to build rapport with our patients for us to deliver a smooth therapeutic session. However, the film showed how challenging it was for the teacher to build rapport with her students. It, sort of, gave us a picture of the reality that building rapport does not come as easy as 1, 2, 3. It may take some time in other cases. This step in conducting a therapy session is crucial because the flow of our session will depend on the therapeutic relationship of the PT and the patient.

Also, I think that establishing rapport with the people that you deal with and being passionate about  the things that you do are one of the things that our college is teaching us and instilling in us day by day. We all know that this profession is not all about having the knowledge of all the exercises or modalities (yes, these are very important) but it is also about giving our patients the assurance that we will give our best to them at all times.

We may not perfect the process now but, in time, we can. We just have to invest our time because there is no such thing as an ultimate formula for this. It really entails a lot of practice. And, again, dedication is another key to a healthier therapeutic relationship with our patients.
