The Declassified Guide to Teaching, Day 4

We learned the strategies, the learning styles, and all that we need to prepare ourselves so now it’s time to put it into a test by making our own teaching guide. My task was to make an instructional design to be used in a classroom setting.

I started with the objectives, easy right? Wrong. Even though this was supposed to be the easiest part of the ID I still had a hard time doing it. The objective is the foundation so it has to be perfect or else the entire design won’t work.  The content is then done which is relatively easier since I just have to answer objectives I’ve set. Now comes the complicated part, how will I teach this? Since it’s in a classroom setting my first thought is that a lecture strategy would be enough and in retrospect of all the strategies this is the easiest to do. However, aside from just lecturing the students should also be able to participate in the discussion thus I opted to add a flipped classroom setting. Then I just had to set the resources and evaluation that I have based on my content.

Overall, it was a really great experience to learn how to make a blueprint in teaching. I have always thought that teaching is an easy job as long as you know what you are teaching, but there really are many things to consider as I have learned while I was making my ID. It was a great way to put into perspective the plans and ideas we’ve come up with when it comes into teaching. This would certainly be useful when we are practicing in our field since it’s a great way to make a guide on how we will go about our actions.
