Teaching is believing

The movie depicted what a teacher has to go through to be able to help her students. It showed how the differences of the students affected their perception of life and of other people.  Even though this was the case, the teacher tried so many techniques and strategies that she thought would help unite her learners and make them value the opportunity to study given to them.

The journal writing helped her to know more about her students. It showed their fears, sadness, their life and dreams. These things made her understand why they are behaving in certain ways. It showed that even in a young age, they are going through very difficult times. It showed that you really would not know someone until you know and understand the things, that person has to go through. The journal writing offered them the chance to speak their minds without being judged. That was probably one of the few moments when they felt that they were free. This showed that for a teacher to be able to change a student’s behaviour, he/she has to know its roots first.

The trip that they had, showed the students that there is a bigger world outside. It showed them that everyone has the chance to change their lives. It is up to them how to do it. They know better what is good for them. This part of the film displayed that not everything that can be learned, is in books or inside the classroom.

Their project where they combined their journals made them understand that everyone has a voice, it is up to them if they want the rest of the world to hear it. Everyone has something to say. Everyone has a story waiting to be told. Everyone is not like everyone.
