TETE: Technical Teaching

How often do we realize that teaching is indeed very technical? That more than the passion, teachers also follow structures and designs needed to facilitate effective teaching and promote better learning.

Fortunately, I was able to realize this.

Goals. Well if we want to target something, it is important to have a goal. In teaching, this is the part where we decide what, when, and how much we want our learners to know what we are teaching. Our goals must be leveled with our learner’s capacity. They must also be realistic and reasonable. And again, they must be tailored based on our learner’s characteristics so it will be relevant.

Content, strategy and resources. Of course, content is what you will be teaching your learners. It should be comprehensive enough to be able to reach your goals. Strategies to be employed when teaching must be creative and again, realistic as can be. We should know in what ways our learners will best learn and how will we best attain our goals. Resources are also of great importance for these will facilitate better learning. Resources can clarify things to learners or maybe broaden their knowledge even more.

Evaluation. Most students hate exams that sometimes they disregard the fact that it was there for reason. Again, in evaluating, everything should be based on your goals. Your evaluation tool must also be reasonable and aligned with the things you want to target. I think they should provide “just right challenge” for the learners, not too easy, but also not too hard.

More than just realize, I was given the chance to create my own instructional design for the audience assigned to our group. I must admit it wasn’t an easy task. There are a lot of things to consider. One must not bother being flexible enough and being open to change every time, if all it’s worth is an effective learning tactic.
