Last
Friday, March 20, 2015, we watched a film entitled “Freedom Writers.”
Basically, it is about a teacher wanting to impart knowledge with her students,
who by the way, were very stubborn.
“To teach is to touch hearts, forever,” this has been the motto of my former
school. The film we watched last Friday has reminded me a lot of this
since the main theme of the movie was teaching and transforming lives. To be
very honest, the film has touched me deeply primarily because I, too, would
want to become a teacher someday. I also want to be able to touch the hearts of
many and to make a difference in one’s life.
In the movie, I have learned about how a teacher should be patient with her
student, and how one should be creative in trying to get the attention and
participation of the students. Also, the great message imparted with me by the
movie is that it is possible for a single ordinary person to make a great
impact on the lives of many people. As a person with many insecurities, I used
to believe that I could never bring a difference to someone, and that I could never be an agent of change in
a person’s life. Because of the movie, I have then believed that I was wrong.
An act of compassion from an ordinary person may go a long, long way.
This is so important to
instill in us since in the future, in our profession, our way of teaching our
clients may actually make it or break it. The way that the teacher stayed
strong and her mindset of not giving up on her students should also be our
attitude towards teaching our future clients, in order to make a difference, in
order to touch their hearts, in order to transform their lives.
