ID Workshop - 3/23/15

Last March 23, we were given the whole day to do our own instructional design which will be used during the fieldwork. We were asked to do the objectives in the morning and finish the whole instructional design in the afternoon.

It was very helpful that we were guided and given immediate feedback on our design because I was able to reflect and correct my design before proceeding to the next step. This facilitated a better learning experience for me as I was able to work on the design without worrying if I’m doing the whole thing wrong.

Through the process of making my own instructional design, I realized teaching needed more work than I thought. From the objectives until the evaluation, each part should be carefully thought of. Even the use of verbs in the objectives can make a big difference. Content, teaching strategy, resources needed, and evaluation should be identified for each objective to ensure that each objectives are addressed and met.

In making objectives, we should always consider the capability and condition of the learners. It should be attainable and measurable. Objectives are important as they will be the goals during the session. The content should be able to cover all that is asked in the objectives. It is also possible to have the same objective but different approach in teaching depending on the age and condition of the patient.

Teaching is not an easy task. It requires a lot of effort to be able to come up with a good instructional design. Instructional design done in haste and without much thought will not lead to an effective learning experience for the learners.
