03.20.15 Movie-ng Forward

A day of viewing turned out to be a day of reflecting. This happened when we were tasked to watch the movie “Freedom Writers” and tasked to reflect upon it. I have watched this before but only now did I realize the true meaning of the movie and how it can be applied to our profession.

When watching the movie, I really was moved with all the stories of the characters but what inspired me was the determination of the teacher. Although people were against her actions and didn't believe in the capabilities of the students, she showed her dedication in helping the children and she never gave up on them. She introduced slowly what caught the interest of students and built the discussion and lectures from there. Not only that but she also opened a new world to the students where hope is possible and someone, like them, went through what they were experiencing then.

Not only did we watch a movie but we were also given time to reflect and share our ideas to our group mates. It was nice to know the views of my classmates as well as sharing mine and in the end we all ended up in realizing our role as PTs. We are not only there to treat but also to guide, and to empower our patients. We should be able to know how to get their interest to be able to strive to perform better in their activities. It is also important to find new ways to be able to help our patients and not just be boxed with interventions in books.

I would remind myself to keep the patient/client’s interests before ours. I would advise myself to not only keep these realizations in mind but also engrave it in my heart
