Someday

I cannot believe that it has already been nine weeks since this semester has started. With all the sleepless nights and stressful exams that I have gotten past, I would be lying if I say that this semester has been by far a walk in the park. This is why I think that the film viewing was a good idea. I could really use a break from time to time.

I think that the movie Freedom Writers was apt for this course not only because of the obvious fact that it involves the usual teacher-students drama but also because it teaches a lot of lessons that can be of use to us in our career as a physical therapist.

1)
In times when all hope seems to be gone, persevere. Have that unwavering determination and believe that your patients will eventually improve one way or another. The ‘change’ that you are expecting to see may seem a bit too far-fetched at first but that should not hinder you from doing the best that you can in every way that you can.

2)

Have that ‘passion for your mission’ – the mission that is to be of service to other people.

3)

Some of your patients may be VERY difficult to bear with. What to do? Stay strong. Have a lot of patience and understanding. Do not deprive them of your genuine compassion no matter what.

The values conveyed in the movie may be a bit of cliché for us already but I think that they are that important to be constantly reminded to us.

All in all, I can say that the movie has inspired me to keep striving to become better. I am hoping that someday I would also be able to give that kind of service that will make a difference and will leave a mark on other people’s hearts.
